Condolence
Messages for Fr. Ragheed Ganni
My sincere and deepest
condolences go to the
family and friends of Father Ragheed and all of you who shared
the same roof with him for many years. We all know how many have
lost their lives in Iraq and feel helpless witnessing a conflict
which has claimed so many innocent people. However this tragic
news is shocking in the extreme.
We have the warmest memories of Father Ragheed's kindness,
integrity and his welcoming smile and are devastated to have
lost someone whose life shone out and touched so many others.
Neither Rome nor Ireland nor Iraq will ever forget such a
wonderful son.
My thoughts are with all those who were closest to him and I
pray the Lord may bring comfort to their hearts. May he rest in
the peace of our Lord which passes all understanding.
Yours sincerely
Judy Reeves

I would like to express my most sincere
condolences for the truly tragic death of Fr. Ragheed
Ganni. How sad and how unnecessary for someone so young
with so much to offer should be shot down under such
awful conditions. My thoughts and prayers go to all of
you at the Irish College who knew him so closely and who
shared so much with him and sincere sympathy to his
family.
May he rest in peace (RIP).
Margaret (Bissett-Olivieri)

The death of Fr Ragheed Ganni comes as a great shock to
so many of us who were privileged to be his friend. He
was forever smiling and always ready to help in anyway
he could. He was diligent in his studies, faithful to
his prayer, devoted to the Eucharist and fearless in
defending the faith. Even in his time in the college we
were always aware of the distinct possibility that he
could be a martyr. Although we hoped it would never
happen we are strengthened by the fact that he and his
companions had just come from the celebration of Mass.
Yesterday Fr Don Kettle, Fr Gerry McCloskey many of his
friends and myself joined in praying the rosary for him
& fellow martyrs and for their families at this time.
The bishops and the priests of Down & Connor who knew Fr
Ragheed are united in grief but strengthened by our
faith that what awaits him and his companions is the
crown of righteousness reserved for those who are
faithful to the end.
Requiescat in pace.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Fr. Ragheed,
whom I fondly remember in the Irish College. A pleasant and
committed young man whose untimely death leaves one shocked and
deeply saddened! May his death be the seed of new life for the
Church in Iraq.
May he rest in peace

It was with great sadness that I
heard last Sunday morning of the death of Ragheed Ganni. In
October 2000 I spent five weeks at the Irish College while on a
research trip to Rome and first got to know Ragheed during that
time. His warm personality and friendliness to all was very
striking and I remember sharing many meals with him during
which we discussed the situation in Iraq, his experience of Rome
and his views on a great number of theological issues. I also
had the privilege during my stay at the college of hearing
Ragheed preach at Mass. He was a gifted communicator and the
overwhelming impression he left with me was one of profound
faith and conviction. To his family, his parishioners and all
who knew and loved him dearly, I offer my deepest sympathy and
continued remembrance in prayer. The Church in Iraq has lost an
intellectually and pastorally gifted priest, whose voice on
behalf of his suffering people was heard across the world right
up to the last days before his death. In doing so, however, it
has gained a martyr whose ultimate witness will not be forgotten
and whose intercession for Iraqi Christians will now continue to
be their strength.
Solas na bhFlaitheas duit, a

Salvador Ryan, St Patrick's
College, Thurles, County Tipperary,

barbares.
In Christo
