The book presents the proceedings of a conference held at the Pontifical Irish College to honour Cardinal Desmond Connell on his eightieth birthday.  The papers and responses celebrate Cardinal Connell as philosopher, theologian and pastor.  Among the contributors are  Cardinal William J Levada, Prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Dr Fran O’Rourke, University College Dublin, Dr Brendan Leahy, St Patrick’s College Maynooth, and other internationally  known philosophers, theologians, and  members of the Roman Curia.

Liam Bergin is a priest of the Diocese of Ossory and Rector of the Pontifical Irish College, Rome. He lectures in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University,  Rome. He is the author of O Propheticum Lavacrum – Baptism as Prophetic Act (Rome, 1998).
